This collection comprises materials from an Orange County, California community planning study conducted from 1965-1978, which brought together planners from both campus and community to study a variety of subjects, including the politics of everyday life, transportation, health, population goals, and open space. Materials include correspondence, reports, flyers, brochures, news clippings, news releases, and articles. Much of the material is related to "UCI Project 21," an organization of business and government leaders interested in helping Orange County prepare for the future through its study projects in areas such as urban planning, housing, and environmental quality.

Historical Background Organizational History The University of California began offering University Extension programs in Orange County in 1959, six years before the opening of the University of California, Irvine (UCI) campus.
